http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b328/jcrowl/viewFilehtml.jpg This horse has been beaten to death around here. And no ban threads in the tech forum!! How can anyone answer questions about something that's not even been passed, if it ever will? This. Someone please lock this! |

Holy smoke. Forget it. I have all of thirty postings and apologize for not having read every one in between. You don't have to take such a tired pious approach :"NTSA!"
I never read anything that does not seem to interest me when I scan the message header... maybe you should ignore the ones that don't appeal to you rather than shoot down someone for asking. In the future I will do a better search and see if a possible question has been "beaten to death" before I ask. My apologies for interrupting you; but look at it this way, you did get your posting count bumped by one. |

Understand ex-post facto.
Oh was that a question? Ex Post Facto Law has little to do with this question as it could be applied, but is a rather archaic way of imposing punishment retroactively. Most of the time it is used as a lame attempt and dismissed because of the rules on modern law- people just don't seem to think that it is right to penalize one for a law that was not in place at the time the act was committed. Don't forget- use your punctuation. |

Do you think a new or reinstateded ban of semi auto weapons will have a grandfathering effect? Ed Understand ex-post facto. obviously you don't +1 Ex-post facto works BOTH ways. So you can be safe from prosecution if a law is passed that affects future laws (pre-ban firearms are legal), this is an amnesty law. Ex-post facto can also be RETRO-active and in affect make pre-ban firearms illegal to own even if you bought them while they were legal. Will it happen? No. Not enough pre-ban weapons are truly registered so it would be an "honor system" as far as policing and destroying the weapons. Not to mention about 100 million now illegal firearms would be pointed at DC. but what do I know, ask your congressman. |
