How difficult is changing out the front sight base on an AR barrel with another standard style pinned sight base?
Someone told me the "pins never line up right" and to leave it be. One "gunsmith" told me he wouldn't touch the job! Is it a simple swap or is it a crap shoot to find a base that aligns the cross pin holes correctly? |

Its a B@@#, Why do you want to change it?

You can go with ADCO for that. I almost got in to that problem, but my best friend who was a armourer in the Army said that it can be done, but it is not easy and it is a type of job not every one can do. I would just let it be or try ADCO. Just remember $120 just for a lug?
I want to re-use the barrel on a new flat top receiver set and install a front sight base w/ lug. The old sight base is a post ban style. |

We do it, but charge $120 because its such a PITA. ADCO did mine and it's a fantastic job. I had my FSB replaced with one that has a bayonet lug. The work was done perfectly. The windage is dead on at 100yds with the rear windage knob zeroed in the center. I highly recommend you let ADCO do it. You couldn't want for a better job. Fast turn around time also. They only had it 2 days and it was back in the mail to me. I have just one question for ADCO. The forward FSB pin was put in the original barrel groove. I've noticed that the rear FSB pin appears to be off set a little from the original barrel groove. Is it still one pin or two? Thank You for such a great job! |
