If you ordered a “pre ban barrel” for your next EBR built, what profile would you expect to receive?  Everything I find online suggests differing opinions as to what exactly qualifies as a “pre ban” barrel profile.

Yes, I know I could call them.  But they are closed for the night, and I am impatient.  That and I’m trying to learn me somethin’.

Preban means it should have a flashhider and a bayonet lug.  Not what profile it is.  Where are you getting it from?

Compass Lake Engineering.  I called them up and gave them my specs for the barrel (M4 feed ramps, rifle length gas, twist rate, etc.).  When it came to the barrel profile, I specified .750 at the gas block and that I wanted to use it for target/precision range work.  The response from the machinist was "Ohh, you want a pre ban profile."  Since I was only interested in their barrel, I thought the "pre ban" comment was a little odd.  I got the price quote and went about my business.  I assume that he was comparing "pre ban" to the M4 profile.

Rifle lenght gas system sounds as you ordered a 20in.

You may have wanted a heavy profile,or SPR,or Goverment profile.

Pre ban only means with a bayonet lug and threaded barrel.

You may want to clarify with them what you are getting in profile.

Yeah, I'll call them up in the morning to make sure we are on the same page.

I would imagine that since you said "target/precision range work"  he is thinking "heavy."

I would agree but if it were me I would want an SPR profile.

A heavy profile is just that.
And more to lug around.
If it is a good quality barrel it will still be as accurate with a Gov. profile.

The SPR is about in between.

Sounds like the SPR profile is what I am looking for.  I'll give them a call tomorrow morning to verify the actual barrel dimensions.

I think I want something like this.
