Hi everyone, glad to be here. I just had a question and I hope I'm putting it in the right place.

A friend of mine just got out of the Army and had 4 M-16 mags he was just going to throw away. I asked if I could have them and he gladly gave them to me. I'm pretty sure these are 30rd mags based on the size (I don't have any 5.56 to test) but two of them have printed on for leo/military use only. My question is, is there any problem with me having these? My dad is retired Sheriffs dept and when I told him I got them he didn't say anything except to ask me if he could have them haha, but I didn't specifically ask so I figured I would ask the considerable knowledge-base here.

Another question that occurred to me, when I build my own AR-15 will these mags work in any receiver or should I look for a specific lower because these are obviously for a military M-16?

Again, happy to be here.. there's some great reading on these boards.

Welome and yes you can have them and they will fit any AR .223 or 5.56 platform receiver.

Your mags are legal to have as long as your state does not restrict them. And yes, they will work in a civilian AR15 just the same as in a military M16/M4.
