| Does anyone make a tool steel LPK? Would these offer much of an advantage over the standard cast parts? |

Doubt it. With the # of lowers I have in the double digits I've never had a hammer failure with standard FCG components. Maybe for an all-out has to work for 30K rounds gun, in addition with some barrel and bolt upgrades, it would be useful.
Most of use will never see a hammer fail because it was not wire EDM machined from tool steel bar stock. My $0.02 - others may disagree. |

I would LOVE to see a LPK out of tool steel but it will never happen! My main concern is the LPK's that are being manufactured using MIM. Failures of MIM parts occur far too frequently. An employee of mine had a S&W 1911 hammer break! Even S&W's own Custom Shop refuses to use MIM parts.
MIM uses a mixture of 96% powdered metal and 4% powdered plastic that is injected into a mold and then heated. PursuitSS |

I did a search and couldn't locate one of them today but I have posted pictures previously showing MIM AR-15 parts. The composition of what is used in the MIM process is straight off of an MIM manufacturer. You can't see the plastic in the molded part but it's there. Here is a link to one MIM producer who states they use 65% metal and 35% plastic. Check out their Gallery, the parts they show are 1911 .45 parts. Don't kid yourself, MIM AR-15 LPK's are out there!
