I have a Sporter Competition HBAR that I rebarrelled yrs ago. I can't recall if I swapped uppers when I rebarrelled. The upper has the large front hole with the double screws but no Colt markings. There is a triangle mark near the front by the barrel. <p>

Dude, that is a rare and very valuable Colt large-hole flattop upper. The small stamp is a Colt proof mark. There were no forge marks on Colt's early flattop uppers.
I know this because I have two that were taken from early-production 6700s that I bought new in the late 80s/early 90s. ETA: In looking at your bottom pic, it looks like the small mark above the triangle near the top rail may be the vestige of the square proof mark that normally accompanies the triangle. |
| I bought this rifle sometime between 1988 and 1994 but I installed a new barrel on it after I traded the first for an m4 barrel. Now that I'm certain the upper is my original Colt upper all I need is a Colt detachable carry handle (which I just found) to get everything back to original configuration. Thanks for all the help! |
