I am wanting to remove my current front sight from my Post ban Rifle and replace it with a FSB with a bayonet lug. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this ?

never mind....

The short version is, forget it. It's not worth the trouble and expense. If you really have to have a bayo lug then buy a new barrel and sell the one you already have.

The problem is, each FSB is pinned on individually. If your barrel is a Colt (as an example) you can't just buy another Colt FSB and expect the taper holes to line up with your barrel. They may be close but they won't be close enough. This will be the case no matter who made your current barrel. You can buy a new, undrilled FSB and attempt to drill the hole to match the groves in your current barrel but that is next to impossible to do right.

then slide your pre ban fsb on, knock the pins back in, ... and your good to go.

Not.

Well let me put it this way, you can try that and if works then run out and buy a lottery ticket.

I tried this, would up buying a clamp on from DPMS.  I like it, held on by 4 set screws.  But it's my beater truck gun.  The set screws kinda look odd.

I posted this same question yesterday and everyone told me that ADCO does
an outstanding job of replacing the FSB with one that has a bayonet?

I mailed them my barrel today.

ADCO Firearms advertises the installation of a bayonet lugged FSB on
their website for 120.00 dollars.

They are a full scale shop and are capable of performing the job. Where as the OP might be trying to do it in his garage or or home. Not an easy task, the machining part and the FSB alignment is crucial as well. Likely the reason you're sending it off. YMMV

You're right, but at least now he has another option.

Very true, it can be done but for the DIY'er not worth the money or effort. A friend attempted his own and his FSB was canted so bad he ran out of sight adjustment. Short Version, ended up spending twice as much $$ to get the results he wanted.

What do you need a bayonet lug for? Planning on stabbin some stuff?

I could do it but it's not worth it. New barrel is the best way.

Life is just not worth living without a bayonet lug on my Colt AR-15.
I have to have one just so I can stay sane.

I'm even embarassed to take it to the range.

After this is done you are left with a non factory barrel and are out 120 dollars

You can swap barrel and sell the old one and break even.

That's if you can find a new  20" Colt AR-15A2 barrel that is chrome lined with a flash
hider and bayonet lug?  Everyone is out.  Even Colt says they won't have them for
at least 6 months.

I know  there are other "cheaper" brand barrels out there, but I buy only Colt AR-15s
and parts.  I'm a die-hard Kool Aid drinker.

As usual, great info. Yeah, it's a colt 20" and I am putting together a Not Even Close Clone of the older m16. I basically just stuck some triangle handguards on a post ban upper and switched out the tactical stock for an A2 fixed stock on my RRA lower. Just looking to get it "close" to the Colt I used to own in the early 80's (sold it fo $400.00 one year before the ban!!!)
Thanks again, I guess I'll go without the pig sticker.

Why not go with a Yankee Hill Machine FSB or other clamp on type? I have a flip-up ready for when mine comes in. Can't be too hard? Find center of FSB, mark it, find center of barrel, mark it, line up the lines, and clamp it on. Already practiced on my Remington 20 gauge barrel that just happens to be the same outer diameter. Looking to modify it to handle a picatanny rail and AR removable rear sight now. That would be awesome!
