| where do i measure from to figure out a barrel length? does a fixed flash hider look any different than a removable one? |

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but measure from bolt face to muzzle.
Drop a dowel rod down the barrel and have it stop on the bolt. Mark the portion protruding from the muzzle with a piece of tape and then measure that to get your overall length. A pin and weld job us usually slightly visible. Try checking the 6 and 12 o'clock positions for a slight discoloration/mark where the weld was dremeled flat and painted/parkerized over. |

Using a rod to stick down the barrel and touch the bolt face is not an exact measurement. The proper way to do it would be to remove the barrel from the upper receiver, then remove the barrel extension, then measure externally with a high quality measuring device. This is how it would be used against you in court. Who really wants to remove their barrel extension, what a pain in the arse. You need to make sure that the barrel is just OVER 16" to cover your ass with BATF, use the extended flash hider, or washers if you so choose. And yes, blind pinning is legal and easy to do if you have some shop experience. |
