| I have a Stag that I purchased as a complete rifle and the upper and lowers do not fit together tightly. It never really bothered me until I put a VFG on it, and now its really noticable. I have two other Stags that are rock solid and very tight. Is there anything I can do to tighten it up, or am I stuck with it this way? |

If the Accuwedge doesn't work, go to the hardware store and get a #7 rubber O ring and slip it on the front lug of the upper receiver. That should solve it. +1 Do this. If the o-ring gets crushed and cut when you close the receivers, then just buy one with a smaller cross-sectional diameter. Fast, cheap, invisible, and it works http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/IMG_6260.jpg This. |

If you want that tight fit, bed the upper to the lower. Coat the lower with a release agent like wax. Degrease the upper. Remove the carrier and mask where you don't want the "bedding compound". What is that? JB Weld. Yep, filled epoxy.
Where to apply it? Well, where the upper and lower meet, on the flats, all the way back to the rounded section on the rear. Only a VERY THIN layer is needed. Let is set up for a half hour or so to where it won't flow. Now assemble the upper to the lower and clean up all the excess goo from the outside. Let it cure for a day, then seperate the upper from the lower and clean up the excess on the inside using a fired case, sharpened with a file. It won't harm hard anodized aluminum. Done correctly, it cannot be seen. Only the upper and lower will have NO GAP between them, and it stays on the upper. Mine have lasted over 20 years with no chipping. Tight as new. Nothing to wear out. And most importantly, NO STRESS. Other things, like that wedge and the o-ring, will stress the pins and the pin holes. This will not. No force, only no play. |
