Hello all,

Are there any disadvantages to going with the superlight over the standard bushmaster m15? I ask because they seem to be cheaper for one reason or another, which makes me a big concerned.

Thanks!

I really like my Superlight. Of course I have 5 carbines in different configurations and from different makers, so I already had other options. But if I'm going to have to do a lot of walking, I'm definitely taking the Superlight. It's just so great to pack. I have access to a good sized ranch (2300 ac.) and that's the carbine I take because of the distances I cover out there. BTW, not sure if the BM Superlights are all 4150, and 1/7, but mine is. Might have been a seasonal/special run, but I don't think so.

Bushmaster will special order you a barrel in 1:7, and all of their barrels are 4150. Superlight barrels don't hold up to heat as well however I also do a lot of hiking with my guns, so weight is important to me. In a semi gun it shouldn't be an issue.

+1 for the superlights!!! The down side is after handling them an HBAR feels like a brick...

The heat issue would be the only thing that would be a negative, it does heat up quicker.... but under normal conditions that will not be a concern.

How many rounds over how brief a time does the heating issue begin?  I have had a few HK P7's, so I understand the annoyance of a heat issue.  But how bad is it?

Is the light part the upper, or is it also the lower receiver itself?

The "light" part is the barrel profile. It's skinny, beginning in front of the chamber all the way out to the muzzle. The Bushy superlight barrel's profile is much like that of the original M16 barrel of the mid-60s.

I was a little skeptical about lw barrels, until I carried one around all day.
It really is about 1 lb lighter than an HBAR & the balance is better.
I will never own a heavier profile of barrel.

Bushmaster lw's are GTG!

It's entirely overblown.

I've run carbine classes with a Bushy 'super light'. Never had a problem hitting the target, Sure after few hundred rounds in a hour or two you might want to be wearing gloves if you don't use a VFG but don't fret over the accuracy.

Sure they heat up quicker than a HBAR, but they cool down quicker as well, and are much nicer to carry and hold all day.
