There are piston conversions and dedicated piston uppers.

If you feel that a piston is necessary in your life, get a dedicated upper.  A conversion, as has been pointed out an explained in this forum, is going to cause premature wear on parts that were never designed to be submitted to such treatment.

I wish nothing but the best for our site sponsors and industry partners, but for the piston conversions I've heard about, seen, or handled, the outlook is bleak.

Please explain the premature wear on WHICH parts and show us some photos of this wear.  Ive only seen a pic or two of very minor buffer tube finish wear.  A few accounts of gouging in the buffer tube from the cheaper systems ( no photos ) and a so called in depth range report from a guy  that bad mouths the piston systems every chance he has but he failed to show pics or give details about the systems he used .  It would be nice also if these piston manufacturers would show some pics to prove what they are saying about their products.

I think the wear on the buffer tube is indicative of greater problems to come.  No one cares about the aesthetics of the inside of the gun, but there are obviously parts moving in a manner that they were never designed to.

Here's the result of carrier tilt in an Ares / Bushmaster retrofit kit after about 2000 rounds.  It's not really that bad in my case, but others have shown pics where it's much worst.  The Ares kit works just fine in my rifle.  However, I do not think its worth the $300 price tag.  IMHO, just stay with the DI gas system.  It works fine and has demonstrated its reliability for over 40 years now.
