I have noticed on some rifles there is something conecting the trigger pin and the hammer pin on the sides of the lower receiver.  What is that and what is it for?

KNS Anti-Walk Pins, they keep the trigger and hammer pins from walking out of the receiver.

fixed it for you. People who have valuable MG registered lowers add them as extra insurance to protect their $$$ investments, others add them because they look cool. If your pins are walking out you have SERIOUS issues with your carbine.

One man's opinion.

Here's another.

They look like crap, and are a totally uneccessary waste of money. How do I know?  Because I have a 1976 purchased select fire AR with about 10,000 rounds through it and the pin holes haven't enlarged even 1000th of an inch. Hell, they've still got the original anodizing inside the holes.

Take your pick on whose opinion to believe

I've got 'em, and they helped me.  My lower is older, and did have worn, enlarged holes.  Got the oversized ones, really took care of the problem.  And keeping them from rotating will keep the holes from wearing any further.
