I have come here and have read a lot of great info, but I can't seem to find an answer to this.
I read that you can not use an AR15/M16 bolt "carrier" in a 6.8 SPC upper, even if you change the bolt and place a 6.8 SPC bolt into the carrier!
is this true?
Thank you

Yes, the carrier is the same, I misread original post.-edit

Only difference in a 6.8 is the barrel, bolt and mags

The carrier is the same for 223 and 6.8 mm SPC.  The bolt and barrel are different.

In the magazine called GUNS & WEAPONS, ISSUE JULY 2008, they did a write up on the Stag Arms 6.8.
And I quote "One of the best features of the 6.8mm is the simple conversion from existing 5.56mm arms. All that is necessary is a replacement upper receiver to include bolt and BOLT CARRIER, since the 6.8mm case head diameter is larger than than that of the 5.56mm."
The article is by Charlie Cutshaw.
I am looking for an upper in 6.8 and so I been reading about as much as I can. And so when when I found this article, everything else I had read stated that you needed to replace the bolt, not the carrier.
Well, I knew I would get the correct info here.
Thank you......
And I would like to ask a favor of all you. Please remember our troop over the holiday. I got a son in Afghanistan, with the Marines.
Thank you again

go hang out at 68forums.com for a while.   You'll have all your answers to all your questions taken care of.   That being said, the bolt carrier for a 6.8 is the same as the .223/5.56 carrier.   The bolt is different but the carrier is the same.
Cheers,
cc

Cardinal Armory has a good FAQ about the 6.8 SPC.  It has some good general info about the caliber and the guns.

Oh Gee, you don't think the largest AR forum on the planet can't give the correct answer?  Especially as the owner of 6.8Forums is the moderator of the AR Variants forum here..

Of course a new carrier is not needed, just the bolt.  However it does make it easier to keep a carrier with each bolt.  (drop in is faster than a bolt swap).
