| I just picked up a NIB Colt 6420 from my buddy. The box is tattered but the carbine is new, never fired. I notice it has a A1 upper with no shell deflector and a slabside receiver along with the A1 sights which I like and are used to from the MC. Are these attributes negatives in anyone perception? I mean they changed the design subsequently so I have to think they are not the ideal. Other than that is the 6420 a good Colt rifle still adequate for a go-to gun today? |
| It is an excellent gun and depending on who you talk too, better than a more modern version. Sometimes it's nice to go back to a really basic AR with none of the tacticool. It's nice, lightweight, and very handy. You'd be surprised how much weight too much tacticool can add. If you just *have* to have optics for it, I recommend saving and getting an acog with a carry handle mount. Other than that, I'd keep it as-is with no other additions. :) |

If you want, there are plenty of ways to tactical an older version too. Ghostring has a pretty cool set up with a gooseneck and one of them smaller burris type dots on it. Then you can mount a light several ways, etc etc. You can tacticool just about any AR you want.
Anyways, I like them simple, but alot of knowledgeable people say simple should include a red dot. I like shooting irons. And my pistols are for SD. I'm not saying irons are better. I just like to shoot them. If the shtf, I might be better off with an aimpoint, but I'm not all that worried about it. Maybe that's dumb, maybe not. Either way, enjoy it, shoot it. After you shoot a whille, you'll try different things and you'll find out what you like and what fits your needs. And where are them pics???? |
