Hello I am obviously a Newb. to AR's what is the difference between a gas block and a gas tube? Thanks

I'm also new but I believe that they are two different pieces that are interconnected.  I may be wrong, but my assumption was that the gas block directs gas from a port in the barrel to the gas tube, which then transfers the gas to the bolt carrier, and I'm not really sure what happens in the bolt carrier, but I'm guessing the gas is allowed to expand and move the bolt.  I'm sure there's some sort of article or write up explain it in more detail if you search for it, you're probably not the first person in the history of the AR to have this question.

That is correct.

For details on what the gas does once reaching the bolt carrier group please check out the 'Read First' thread tacked at the top of this forum.  bigbore did an excellent job explaining the BCGs operation.
