Hey so does anyone know what the final consensus is regarding breaking a barrel in? I bought a new dmps .308 and bushmaster 5.56 and will clean them both obviously before I go to the range. But is the cleaning after every subsequent individual shot actually necessary? The 5.56 is chrome lined and the .308 is SS. Thanks!

Just shoot the hell out of the 5.56, no special break-in necessary.  Maybe just lube it first with some break free clp.

I'm not sure on the .308, but I'm sure someone else here will know.

Shoot it, clean it. Repeat. No special regimen required.

There is no such thing as barrel break in.

Barrels wear out, they don't break in.

Yup sounds good. The whole clean after every shot thing seemed a bit eccentric, but then again Im new to the whole AR thing,.
I definitely couldn't see any practical benefit in doing it..but I found quite a few forums with people swearing by it.
