Building my first AR and trying to decide which trigger assembly to use. It seems my choices are one-stage or two-stage. Of the one-stage, I've seen Timney and Bill Springfield (at about half the cost). For two-stage, I've seen RRA, CMMT and LMT.
So, for "normal" use, would you go 1 or 2 stage? And of the above choices in each category, which would you choose? Finally, if one-stage, should I go with the 3 lb or 4 lb trigger? I've also heard that the two-stage trigger "breaks down" over time (1000-2000 rounds). Is this true? Will I be replacing the trigger every couple thousand rounds? |

For your first AR I would stick with the normal single stage triggers. If you want an enhanced trigger go with Bill and stay in the 4 lb range. Lot lighter and smoother than your factory trigger groups.
If you have 2nd AR that you designated your accurate AR (scoped) I'd go with a worked on 2 stage or even one of those fancy drop in triggers where you will notice the difference. Just my opinion. So it depends on how you use it. |

Thanks. Just to clarify, I have a KISS 6520, and am now looking to build my first. I figured I'd keep the 6520 stock, and "play" with the build one.
I don't intend to shoot in matches, so I'm more looking for range, general purpose and HD applications for the one I'm building. Given that, would you still recommend the one-stage, maybe an upgraded Bill Springfield one? Or is the Timney worth the extra money? |
|
I'd go with the upgraded Bill 1 stage trigger since you mentioned HD and general purpose use. AR's are like tools. The more specialized role you want it to play the more specialized parts you are going to use.
Good luck. It looks like you have 1 nice AR and a future "beater". |

Concur with above, just picked up Defender lower with 2 stage trigger. This is for use with MRP upper as a do-all rifle.
While I like the 2 stage trigger, not what I want on my do everything rifle. Moving the trigger to an A2 target style rifle and taking the single stage from that to Bill Springfield, that will then go back into the Defender. |
| I like Geissele 2 stage for everything. I have a Hi Speed on my SBR and have not found a better trigger. Gives me the best of all worlds. Factory triggers are garbage. A single stage trigger is not any faster and not as easy to know what the shot will be relased unless its way too light. |

I just got my first Bill Springfield trigger back from him and am very impressed. You can't beat the price or the service...it appears that he had mine for only one day...out and back home in a week total.
The difference between the Sprinfield trigger job and the stock Stag trigger is quite amazing. |
