Looking at buying my first AR, and would like to know what anyone thinks about the .204 Ruger as a hunting caliber versus the .223 in an AR style weapon.
I know the .223 ammo is probably cheaper and more readily available, but strictly in accuracy, knockdown, and long range capability, which do you prefer?

Depends on what you intend to hunt.

The .204 has one of the best (flattest) trajectories of anything available right now out to around 400 yards.  This equates to very good accuracy, but it does lack downrange energy against anything bigger than coyotes unless your shots are perfectly placed.

I'd go with the 223.  Ammo resupply is far better than the 204.

Of your choices, .223/5.56.
