Ok so i have a few questions regarding some upgrades for my Bushmaster XM-15.  Here is a picture of what i have pulled from the Bushmaster Catelog.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3217/3013064869_688a18b1cc.jpg?v=0

The first thing i want to buy is.

http://www.magpul.com/catalog/images/ctr1b.jpg

Now my question for this is... It says under the description Mounts on Commercial Carbine Receiver Extension tube (Not included). Will this fit my gun, if i buy it like it is? Or do i also need to buy the Reciever Extension Tube? I know these may be fairly stupid questions but hopefully someone can anwer them.

I also have another question regarding the rail systems. Ive seen a ton of rail systems and im trying to narrow down exactly what i would like. My question is, and i will try to show with pictures, how do i get my rail system to look like this:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3015/3013106311_817f9a11ef.jpg?v=0

Instead of:

Hope none of this is too confusing if it is please feel free to ask me to clarify a little more. I just dont want to start buying all sorts of parts and realize they wont fit or its not exactly what i wanted.

The magpul stock requires a carbine buffer tube ( 1.14" or 1.17 ) The stock in the first pic is a A2 rifle stock, need to change out extension tube spring and buffer.

As for the handguards the look like Troy or Samson. You have to cut off the round thing( delta ring) then the HGs will bolt up to the factory barrel nut.

1. yeah you'll need to order the carbine buffer tube, and possible a carbine buffer..... which normally arn't too pricey.... BCM has lots of diffrent crabine buffers that don't cost a whole lot....bushmaster sells the tube for the 6 postion stocks at about $26... and the standard buffer at around $17..... you will probably need to replace the buffer spring as well as i'm pretty sure its diffrent...... i would check BCM's prices before hand

2. now for rails you have a few options to go with...... Troy, DD, LaRue have variations that are easy to install, YHM has nice rails for better prices, but require a little more to install..... but there are plenty of rail options out there, just a matter of what you want/willing to spend, and if you can install it yourself or have a gunsmith to do it for you

Bravo Company

YHM

I would assume that i have a commercial size for the buffer correct? If thats the case im gonna order the tube and springs then that stock.

Yes, you have the commercial size.  If you look, you can sometimes find the CTR in a kit with the buffer and tube.  I remember getting one for around $150(stock, buffer and tube)

Also I have the Troy rails on my Bushmaster and cutting the delta ring off is not that hard.  If you look in the build it yourself section, there is a pretty good step by step on how to do it.

eta: well I just looked and they don't have the one cutting it off, but I know I saw it somewhere on here.  Maybe someone will find it and post it up.

You will need a whole different tube set up.

You will need a CAR buffer tube, CAR Spring, CAR Buffer, Castle Nut, etc...

I thought MAGPUL made the CTR in Commerical and Mil-Spec...

If so, I would go all Mil-Spec...

Are there any benefits for going all Mil Spec?

if your bushmaster has a stock like in the first pic you posted, then YES. You will need the following parts.

Buffer Tube ( 1.14 is milspec. 1.17 is commercial) MAGPUL offers both so decide if you want a milspec tube or commercial.

Recoil buffer spring. The spring you have now won't work too long will not function in a carbine buffer.

Buffer, IMO a standard H carbine buffer will be fine.

Castle Nut. the same for 1.14 or 1.17

End plate or receiver plate with or without sling loop.

Recap: you can not use any A2 rifle stocks parts with the Magpul CTR stocks. Look for complete stock kits. They will include everything you need to install onto your rifle.

The Mil-spec tube is stronger and you have more optiosn when selecting a stock.

The reason I say go Mil-Spec, is that Mil-Spec parts will always be made.  Not that anything will happen, but who knows...Just a safer bet in my OP..

Ok so i found a website. www.lanworldinc.com/buttstocks.html.

They sell the Magpul Industries CTR Stock Kit (Mil spec) Includes tube, spring, buffer and hardware. This all for 160 dollars. What ya think?

Now if i bought directely from them is that basically all i need? I guess my question is.. i have that exact gun that i posted from the bushmaster catelog. Is it going to matter if i go with commercial buffer or milspec buffer? Do they both fit?

They will both work...$160 is about right...I would buy at that price...

One stupid question before i do put the purchase in. If i did not buy the complete packaga deal, what are the chances that that stock would fit on the buffer that is currently in my gun, the stock one? Slim chance?

0% you don't have the "rail" section for a tel-stock, your A2 stock is just a round tube, so it has nothing for the new stock to lock onto

New guy here but thought I would chime in since I just did this.

I just went through the same thing with almost identical rifle.  Here are the directions Bushmaster sent me when I was having some problems removing the A2 buffer tube:

http://freepdfhosting.com/7916882cb9.pdf

You can see that the carbine and rifle buffer tubes are very different .

I also found it helpful to order a carbine stock wrench to help tighten the castle nut and loosen when I need to.  I got it for $7 through Amazon because I forgot to order it when I purchased my stock.

No chance.  Rifle buffer & Spring is completely different (larger) than the carbine spring and buffer.

Quit asking the same question. No it will not work with your current setup. Buy the complete stock kit for a $160

rifle buffer tubes vs the carbine version are completely different. No way to modify or WECSOG make it work. A carbine buffer is odd shaped, the lower portion of the tube has a flat spot with notches to catch the detent on carbine stocks. Rifle tubes are smooth and completely round like a peice of pipe. No way a carbine stock would be able to stay on the tube.

To answer your question, NO!!
