Hello all. I'm new to this forum and a new AR15 owner. I just bought my black rifle yesterday: DPMS 223 Panther AP4 Carbine...brand new. It appears Christmas came early this year!! I was planning on field stripping this week and making sure everything is oiled/greased. Can anyone give me pointers on things to look for in the rifle before firing? Thanks all.

Welcome to the most expensive sickness on the planet.

Nice choice for a first AR.

Just make sure it's well oiled and the bore is clear before firing.

Go ahead and think about what you want for your second AR, you can't have
just one.

Just take it apart but one item if you take the BCG apart and you should do this, do not for get to get the firing pin back in the unit. If you forget and put the bolt&carrier back into your rifle without it the bolt cam will turn and you will have a locked up rifle. And it's not and easy task getting it unstuck.

Good luck you have a fine AR.

I've been there... I built my first AR and I remember after the upper receiver arrived I was pretty much constantly holding it and looking at it.  It was painful to wait the next 3 days until the barrel arrived and I could put em together.  When you decide to build one from the ground up don't plan on taking your time with it once the first parts start arriving, because without incredible self control its not going to happen.  I had an original plan of 3-4 months to gather parts and build.  Once the upper receiver arrived, it turned into a 2.5 week build (most of the time was shipping and waiting on the gas block roll pin).
