Is there a left handed safety/fire selector or does that require a left handed striped lower?  Are there "ambidextrous" selectors?  Thanks guys for any input

Here is one from DPMS

There are probably other options.

Rock River now makes a Ambi star selector.

I think PK sells them.

FWIW, Stag Arms sells a decent ambidextrous selector too.

I'm a lefty, but I don't know of anybody making a true left-handed selector.  IIRC, the Stag left-handed rifles come with an ambi selector.

I once took an ambi selector and lopped off the lever on the palm side and it worked/felt just fine.

I'm used to moving my thumb back and forth, but that's just me.  I also shoot right handed bolt actions left handed out of necessity.  The ambis are pretty good, though.

JP makes one that has a removable thumb thingy so you have have either a right handed version, ambi (providing you buy the second side) or one on just the right side of the rifle.

I use a standard ambi selector. It used to bug me at first with my index finger rubbing on the selector part but I have gotten used to it.

i'm not a lefty but i can't stand to shoot a rifle with an "ambi" selector. the selector under my trigger finger bothers me. a good friend of mine uses the JP and it's nice. well worth the money. my GF is a lefty and i'm reconfiguring her AR to a total left handed rig. (Stag upper, JP selector)

Interesting.  Not really a true lefty selector and it's a bit pricy for the OP's needs, IMO, but it's an option.

Thanks guys for the input.... I'm building a left handed AR for my brother since Hussien is about to be in office and figured that if you are going to drop a grand into a gun it ought to be comfortable
