I have a Bushmaster M4A3 everything is still stock on it. I have a few questions for upgrades and other things. First, I would like to buy another upper for it with a shorter barrel. I like the CMMG 11.5 Government Profile Upper. With that said would i have to get that shipped to a FFL Dealer and/or sign papers to have it legally?

Second, does getting a low profile gas block as an option on that upper take off the front sight?

Third, I would like to get another handgaurd for it. I like the Midwest Industries 2 Piece. Is it hard to get the plastic ones off and do i need the removal tool?

I'm sorry in advance if this isn't the spot this thread should go in. I'm new here and to the AR15 scene as I have only had mine for a few months, but i am looking to get very educated on them. I'm sure I can get all the help I need from here!

You cannot install a SBR upper (shorter than 16") on your lower without first being approved for a tax stamp by the ATF. Several weeks to months wait after submitting the paperwork & $200 check to the ATF. Read the NFA forums in the Armory section for further on the process. A low pro gas block would negate the purpose of a standard FSB. A handguard tool makes removing & installing two piece handguards easier but you can go at it without one.

Do you have to do the forms and pay the $200 tax each time you buy something which requires it?

for instance...I buy the 11.5 in. upper I have to fill out the forms and pay the tax. Ok then I decided later I want a suppressor. Would I have to pay the $200 and do the form each time?

Could I go to a Class III Dealer, order a SBR and suppressor and possibly get it Automatic and do all that and only have to pay and do forms once? or would I still have to do it for each item that requires it?

You have to pay the tax & complete the paperwork each time you want to purchase a NFA item.
