| So im new to the whole AR scene and i have an Armalite m-15 model Ar-15, and after firing about 200+ rounds through it i notice that the smooth surface of the face of the buffer is now knicked and chipped. Is this usual buffer wear, or should i spend money on different one...? |

Buffer face wear is not normal, and is either caused by two things. - The bolt carrier not pushing back on the buffer when the receivers are closed. This allows the buffer to contact the buffer retainer during firing, causing chips on the circumference of the buffer face. There is no corrective action that I know of for this. - Second, sharp metal edges on the rear end of the bolt carrier, in the channel milled into the bottom of the carrier. These sharp edges can cause premature wear on the face of the buffer. Corrective action: Stone or file the bolt carrier in the area of the milled channel. Sometimes this area may seem smooth to the touch, but is actually rough enough to cause wear. I have even went as far as to lap the end of the carrier on an oil covered Arkansas Stone to smooth the carrier out. If you’d like related pics, just let me know. |
