Has anybody tried a Bill Springfield tuned trigger? Is it a match trigger or just a tuned OEM unit?

He will modify your stock trigger. I had him do a Bushy trigger for me a year or so ago with good results. I did have to file a very tiny amount from the disco cuz the trigger was not catching the hammer upon trigger release sometimes but that is prolly due to tolerances. It was a minor inconvienience but was worth the price paid. However this rifle was a paper puncher, not a fighting rifle.
The mod DID improve the stock trigger and am considering sending him another.

The last time I talked to him, he said he was getting DPMS triggers and doing his trigger job on them. They aren't match triggers, just plain single-stage triggers.

I have 3 of his 4 lb triggers......GREAT stuff, especially for the money.  Turn around was 1 week for me in AZ.

I highly recommend him.  No light primer strikes so far and a trigger that breaks like glass with no creep.

Yes, but he also sells triggers if you don't have one already.

You'll be pleased with the result, the trigger in my 6920 felt like there was sand in it. When I got it back it couldn't believe how much better it was. I got the 4 lb. job, but I kinda wish I would have gone with the 3 lb.

Anyone have a phone number for Bill? I would love to send him my trigger in the next couple of days (before I leave on a business trip) and in fact sent him an e-mail two days ago, but haven't yet received a reply.

Granted, I sure understand that not everyone is as leashed to their e-mail as I am, but I'm really excited about getting my trigger tuned, and it would be fantastic if I could get this sent soon.

Thanks in advance.

I corresponded with him by e-mail a while back.  It did take a couple of days in between replies but he was very informative.  I purchased two 4 pound triggers.  Very satisfied.

We ended up exchanging e-mails just a couple hours after my (above) post, and I was able to get my trigger in the mail right before the Post Office closed. Looking forward to trying out the finished product.

Just a follow-up to my earlier posts in this thread. I received my 3 lb. trigger back from Bill and he did a fantastic job.

Dollar for dollar, I doubt there's a better modification we can make to our rifles. It has without question improved my ability to hit the target, especially since I'm used to the crispness of bolt-action triggers.

I'll be sending him another AR trigger to perform his magic on later this week. Big +1 to Mr. Bill Springfield.

Any of you guys using Bill's "speed hammer" option on the service trigger?   Is the speed hammer necessary for reliably shooting XM193?

Thanks, knikshooter

Bills done two of my FAL trigger sets and made them very very nice.  No creep and a light pull.

FALs can sometimes pull at 12+ lbs.

I'll be sending him two of my RRA single stage trigger sets for a pair of M4s im working on.

I would stick with the 4lb regular for xm193.  I got some of the 3lb w/ speedhammer and they did the job, but had some light primer strikes on all of the prvi military I was using with it.  Replaced the hammer spring and got back to normal.  If I had it all over to do again, I would go 4lb regular and be GTG.

I sent mine out Monday and got it back Thursday! It breaks like glass with no creep at all which was  very bad before. I got the 4lb since I use this gun for coyote hunting mostly and love it. For the price and what I’m using it for, this was much better way to go than buying a two stage or any drop-in triggers.
A+ for Bill and his work

Dropped off my lower to Bill in person today.  He did the 4lb setup on my Rock River lower with standard trigger and I also had him do the speed hammer.  Trigger was about 8lbs before with creep, now is 4lbs without any creep.

Bill did great work and all parts/finish look factory.  Best money I have spent on my AR yet!

What do you want??? I am looking at one on my desk right now. Looks like a normal single stage, but with a little polishing. If you think it has some magical look you will be disappointed. I don't know what you know about AR FCGs, but you really have to know what you are looking for to realize what has been done. Try one, you'll like it....

I have read that the hardness layer on the engagement surfaces of a stock AR trigger is thin and that if you stone or smooth up the trigger, you can easily go through the hardened material.  This results in a trigger that feels good to start, but wears prematurely.

Does Springfield solve that problem?   Anyone have several thousand rounds on one of his triggers?

I'd much rather throw my business his way than continue to pay around $200 for more McCormicks and Timneys
4/2/2009 3:22:21 PM EDT
[#35]
I've personally put 5000 rounds of XM-193 and reloads through one of his triggers... just a standard CMT that was polished, standard hammer springs etc.  Feels great!

No worse for the wear.

Reset is kinda short, and i've had accidental bump fires when firing from the bench when I first got the trigger.  Of course, practice with trigger manipulation has made it so i've not had any accidental firing since, even in classes and shooting in a rifle league (USPSA style shooting).

Got my Springfield trigger installed and have done about 800 dry fires. It is about a third of the weight it was from the factory and has zero creep. Took exactly one week from dropping it in the mail to getting it back. Also, somehow it basically dropped into place under the safety without any effort on my part.

I will be sending more triggers for him to work on.

Buddy gave me two of Bills work, and while one breaks at an amazingly light weight and is consistant... being a two stage it should return after letting off the pressure... it does not.  RRA match version.

I got the 4lb and love it.It has no travel in it at all just a clean break and awesome reset. He says the 3lb is for match guns were trigger pull is important but for duty and defense he says the 4lb is the best.I believe the only difference is if he replaces your springs with lighter ones.He says you can get light primer strikes and failure to fire with the 3lb so that is not an option in my book.I shoot in matches but speed and accuracy count so having to pull the bolt and try again will cost to much time for that 1lb difference.

does anyone have a pic of his "speed hammer" modification?  would this be more for competition, or would a speed hammer be more reliable for combat?

I am wanting to put this in my SHTF rifle so I have a good combat trigger that is also smooth and light.

thanks

Has anyone sent in a RR 2-stage to have Bill work some magic, I have one that doesn't feel as nice as it should.  I have a SSA coming and I can't decide whether to put the RR or the SSA in a precision build.  I really don't won't to spend the $279 for the adjustable Geissele, Suggestions

He can make most any stock trigger a work of art for a song.  He's done my LE6920, FAL, and HK 91, all with superb results, extremely fast turnaround (usually you have it back within a week from the time you mail it), and the price is too good to be true.  Probably the best money I've spent on all of my rifles, and I will definitely send him every rifle I buy that needs trigger work.

I just got the 4lb with speedhammer.  Breaks nice and crisp.  When I got it back and installed it I thought i was going to be disappointed after a dry fire test.  However, after a range trip it definately tightened my groups and I am quite satisfied.

I just got mine back from Bill and I am quite pleased.  I have recently replaced two triggers with the RR 2 stage and sent my third one to Bill for the 4 pound plus hammer mod.  If I had done this before, I would have never gotten the RR's.  It is exactly what I wanted.  I would still get the two stager if I were building a varmint or sniper rig, but for the money, Bill's job is the winner hands down.  I was not expecting it to be this good.

ETA:  8 days from the time it left my mailbox in MS.  He must have made the postman wait at the door.

everyone who has shot one of his triggers comments on how nice it is.

and these are experienced hunters who use high dollar triggers on their bolt rifles

I've had a couple of 2 stage triggers and ended up selling both of them here on EE.

I've got 3 Bill Springfield triggers - one 4 lb and two 3 lb setups with the speed hammer - Love all of them. ZERO creep, breaks like a glass rod, Zero overtravel. I'll take his triggers over any of those much much much more expensive 2 stage jobs anyday.

Best $ i've ever spent on any of my AR's!!!

Maxbid.

Since you own both the 4lb and the 3lb options, can you verify any light strikes on the lighter triggers?

Is the difference only the springs between the two options?

It seems I see alot of guys with the 4lb making statements like "i wish I got the 3lb instead" or "next one will be the 3lb".     Is this how you ended up with both options?

Thanks.
