As far as a complete rifle is there any other options besides Stag Arms? I've not heard anything good about Stag Arms, was I misinformed? Lastly, would it simply behoove me to swap out my current upper for a left handed upper? I really don't want the expenditure of an additional upper. Thnx in advance.

Ditto... I only know of Stag making lefty ARs.

What negative Stag info have you heard? I've never had issues w/ mine.

Go stag. I have a 3HL and i love it. DPMS also makes a south paw ar15. I don't believe its as LEFT as the stag. On the stag everything is switched the forward assist, ejection port, safety.

Have you tried shooting a regular AR yet?  While some things are definitely more difficult, with a little practice you can easily manipulate a standard AR as a lefty.  Use your left thumb or left forefinger for the safety, use your right thumb or forefinger for the mag release, etc.

The shell casings ejecting across your field of vision are not very noticeable, and the shell deflector should keep them from hitting your face.

I know plenty of lefties that shoot standard ARs without difficulty.

NEVER heard anything bad about Stags.

Ok a lefty here, for an AR all you need is an ambi selector and ambi mag release. The brass deflector works pretty well. The charging handle is pretty ambi any way. If you must have a right side ejection Stag is a pretty good way to go, never heard anything bad about them.

Not sure where you're hearing bad things about stags. Tons of my friends are lefties so I knew if I had a lefty stag they'd like it a lot more =D Too bad I'm right-handed... anyways. I felt comfortable with Stag because it's not neccessarily top tier like Colt and Noveske yet it doesn't have a whole host of complaints that I read and hear about Bushmaster and DPMS.

I've been shooting AR-15s since the early 70s with no problems being left handed.

I wouldn't even consider a left handed AR-15, it just wouldn't feel natural.

Keep in mind the resell value is practically zero.

I talked to a few gunsmiths about some custom builds for a left handed AR being that I too am a lefty.  I was advised that the a full lefty build was kind of a waste as they are set up to work well for everyone since in battle someone may need to pick up your rifle after you are gone.  The one thing I wanted was an ambidexterous safety, and I hear thats about $20 and easy to install.  Also a left handed mag release isn't really needed because its just as easy with it set up righty.  As for the ejection port, you dont even notice it, and you wont get hit with the brass.  The guy thats doing my custom build has a son in Iraq who is left handed and he said he was having no trouble at all with their rifles.

STAG makes a great product. even the lefty Noveske is a STAG upper.

you can't just swap uppers as the barrel extension for a lefthanded upper is different. as is the BCG.

you can build your own if you want. buy the lefty upper and BCG then start looking for LH barrels. White Oak makes some nice Ambi barrels.

I appreciate all the timely replies guys. I've shot standard everything for as long as I've been shooting. Currently have a standard S&W M&P 15T that I shoot with no problem, as any lefty will tell you, you simply adapt to the reverse functions and I've never had a problem with the ejected casings. My right eye is usually closed anyways whilst looking down the sights so I don't even see the ejected casings fly by. I have thought about the resell value and might just swap all functions over to left handed as opposed to buying a complete left hand. As for what I have heard about Stags is that the resell/trade value does not hold up and that the trigger is too heavy and stiff. Would I be wrong to trade the S&W for a Bushmaster or should I simply keep the S&W? Thnx again guys.

be real - you're not taking your personal built rifle into battle.  if you're in the military and try to take your personal rifle to the aor you will be court martialed.  this is a non-issue for building a lefty.

why should you have to suck it up with your personal rifle?

I agree.  That's a stupid argument.  The only thing that changes operation wise is the side the brass deflects from.  Otherwise the manual of arms is EXACTLY the same.  Noone will have  Then there's the argument that the parts aren't standardized and you will have trouble finding parts if the SHTF.  I don't buy that either.  If your rifle breaks down during a SHTF scenario, your not going to be trying to steal a bolt from a functioning rifle, your just gonna grab the functioning rifle.  Besides, regardless of what brand you have, you should always keep spare parts for your rifle nearby.
All that said, being a lefty, I have absolutely no problem shooting a right handed AR except maybe being gassed in the face during rapid fire.  For me, the left handed upper is worth it just to keep the gas and clp out of my face.

As far as ambi controls go, IMO all AR's should have them.  It just makes sense.

Here's the custom build I just finished.
