I am considering this platform as my SHTF weapon of choice. Does anyone have any experience with it? I understand that the chrome-lined barrel of the N4 is "not as accurate" as Noveske's stainless offering, but was wondering if it made a difference in the real world outside of benchrest competitions... Does anyone know the weight difference between a 16" N4 Recce verses a 16" Recon Rifle? Also would you choose the VIS over a non-VIS for more rigid platform? Is the price difference worth the while? Thanks for any advice on this subject... - BORG |
Negligible compared to a standard upper with a Troy rail? Yes. Negligible compared to a standard upper with a DD Lite rail? No. |
The N4 series barrels are VERY accurate, and there are multiple reports of shooters getting sub-MOA groups. People have commented that the N4 series is so accurate that it almost makes SS barrels pointless. While the N4 is chrome lined, its held to a very high standard. |
That is great news and I still believe that the weakest link is still the operator... I may be wrong, but my POF .308 carbine seems like it has a "VIS-like" upper receiver too and when compared against my "very flexible" Bushmaster....it does make sense that the less flex, the more accuracy you're going to have downrange...right? - BORG |
I do not believe that adding a VIS will make a rifle any more accurate, unless that rifle did not have a free floating handguard before. |
+1 - I have the N4 Recce VIS and it is heavy. I kind of wish I'd ordered a custom upper with a DD Lite rail from MSTN or G&R Tactical, but that would have been way more expensive. If I was going to do it all over again, I'd probably just order the N4 Recce Basic upper from Noveske and put a DD rail on it myself. YMMV. |
I wonder if the latest LMT piston carbine would weigh more than your N4 Recce with the VIS option? Anyone? - BORG |
