I posted this in the mag forum but in the past 3 hours I have not gotten a response.
what is the benefit? is chrome a smoother material? I can't find a viable answer.

From what I have read, the chrome silicone springs will not lose their tension but have a chance of rusting. The stainless will not rust but could loose their tension over time. To my knowledge the military uses the stainless steel.
