I am building my first AR and I have what I think is a good setup, but I wanted to run it by the hive mind to see if I have missed anything. I have always kept plain iron sites on my guns, so I decided to get a varminter to scope. Stag Model 6 Badger Ordnance 30mm rings (do I need medium high or high rings for an AR?) Super Sniper 10x scope Harris 6"-9" notched, swivel bipod Scope caps? Mags (would aluminum ones be fine for a bench rest shooter? 44mag sells 30 rounders for $10) What kind of ammo should I get, match grade stuff or just xm193? Any other necessary equipment? Thanks for any advice |
USGI magazines are fine, but I think you'll find you're going to have issues using 30 rounders from a bench (20's work better from a bench).
Why get a 10x scope if you're going to use 'cheap' ammo? If you want precision results, you'll need precision ammo. |
I meant cheap ammo for a break in period, or do I need to worry about break in periods at all on this rifle? Do 10 round mags fit flush with the mag well? |
You don't need to break in a chrome lined barrel, but some people are religeous about breaking in a stainless barrel. Your call. But why use the more expensive M193 for 'break in' when stuff like Remmington UMC is cheaper?

| mediums should do you fine. ck out TPS rings , they are nice rings, and half the price of the Badgers, I have both and both are great rings, no sense using a set of rings that are worth more than the scopeLarry |
