i am ordering a new ar from rock river arms i have picked a m4 style short chrome lined barrel, winter trigger gaurd, magpul ctr stock, bagder tactical latch, quad rail, carbine length, A2 front sight and its going to be a flat top. i am setting this up for a duty or training gun i want it light, the one i have now is so heavy compared to all of my friends guns. i dont know if im getting all the right options and do i go with a light barrel or heavy barrel. thanks for looking

If you want it light, go with the lightweight barrel.  I believe the weight savings is around .5 lbs iirc from another thread.

That must be odd looking.....

If you're going to add a bunch of doo-dads you should go with the lighter OR gov profile barrel.

Other than the above get yourself a good white light, optic, and sling.

some people have told me that a light weight barrel heats up too fast and loses a ton of accuracy quick is that true or how true

That sounds like a pretty good set up to me.

What rail are you getting? You might be able drop a little weight there - rail thread.  I like LaRue

I think the Badger latch sticks out too far.  It snags easier and digs in when it's slung.  It's good if you have a big scope on your rifle, otherwise go with the PRI Big Latch.

What type of rear sight are you going to use?  I like the Troy and the LaRue for fixed.  Both are pretty stout.

i would like to go with a quad rail they offer this way i can get it setup at the factory, but i dont know what makes sense

So a flashlight...I'd say Surefire 6P LED or Surefire G2 LED.  Both are great flashlights in the $55-$70 range.  Then get a VLTOR or Daniels Defense mount, or just a quality 1" low profile scope mount.

I agree that Larue fixed is the rear sight to have if you want fixed, else a ARMS 40L or Troy would be a great rear folding unit.

Otherwise you need a tactical sling, I prefer the one point from Spectre.

Didn't see a pistol grip, so Magpul MIAD.  Oh, and Magpul PMAGS for magazines.

Then it's an optic, Aimpoint ML3 in Larue mount or EOtech 512 in Larue mount.

Definitely go light barrel, it's what the military uses and they don't have problems going full auto with them, ie the hotness doesn't effect the accuracy until you've gone through a couple hundred rounds full auto, which you aren't likely to do.

i should put my other plans down i guess. this is what im thinking eotech 512, arms 40l rear sight, rra forward grip, mamba combat sling, end plate with dual hoops and i dont know what for lighting but i will figure that out later to see and feel what i like.

It is a Magpul MIAD grip (full kit) w/ trigger guard front strap.
