I ordered some Wolf extra strength extractor springs for the bolt in my surplus A1 upper.  While taking the bolt apart I noticed the original extractor spring had no rubber insert.  The bolt is a surplus M16 bolt that I bought at the same time I bought the surplus A1 upper.  How important is the rubber insert for correct cartridge extraction?  Thanks in advance.

I'd think "you" would be able to tell us the answer to this question.......

Did rifle run 100% before ya check'd it?

ps - I seen a many a AR run just fine withOUT the spongy - that said I'm sure it don't hurt to have one in there

I use the Wolf extra power spring without an insert with my both my 11.5" and 14.5" uppers on my M16 and haven't ever had any extraction problems.

I've had  no extraction issues so far.  I'm a lefty and my goal with the the extractor spring change is to change the angle of extraction.  The original extractor spring sends cases at a sharp rearward angle that bounce off me.  I was just suprised to find no insert when I pulled the extractor off, and was curious if one needed to be there for some reason I was unaware of.

To improve the extraction force of my 20" A2 rifle I'm just using an extractor O-ring and the black rubber insert that's already in there from the factory.

If the Wolff extra power spring is too much try the rubber spring insert with an O-ring.

I only use extra power extractor spring, insert, and O-ring (BCM kit from Bravo Company) on my carbine gas system.

With my 16" midlength gas system carbine I'm using the same setup as my 20" rifle.

Black insert and the O-ring. An inexpensive upgrade. Not absolutely necessary, but it does work for me.

I feel it adds a lot of life to the spring.

Potty training your AR15 or otherwise changing the ejection angle is not done by messing with the "extractor" but done by CAREFULLY trimming rounds off the "ejector"-spring.

Done all the time with no ill-effects to extraction reliablity by NRA Highpower shooters - my own "F" class rifle drops all my rounds in a nice little pile for easy pick-up.

If you need further help with this issue simply e-mail or IM me and I'll go through the procedure for ya......
