The most affordable SPR barrel that I know of is sold by White Oak Armament. I've owned three or four of these in the past, and all shot right at 1.5 to 2.0 MOA with Federal Match 69 grain ammo. The ones I had were marked "CLE", which means Compass Lake Engineering made the barrels for WOA. Rumor has it that these were built using a Wilson blank. You can also call Compass Lake Engineering to see what CLE charges to make you a SPR barrel. Bunny usually answers the phone. She is very knowledgeable about AR shooting, because she shoots. You may get lucky, and Frank White, the owner, will answer the phone. CLE is very personable and can answer all your questions. The great thing about CLE is that you can specify the barrel blank you want used when he makes your barrel. CLE does top notch work. A few years ago, I had CLE make me several SPR barrels for Hard Blue testing. I specified using Douglas Premium air-gauged, 1:7 twist, chrome moly blanks. They were absolutely great shooting barrels; ALL shot under one MOA, with Federal Match 69 grain ammo. As a matter of fact, I am still shooting one. I am a mediocre shot, at best, and, on a good day, when my tremors are still, it will hold 0.7 MOA. I had a High Master friend shoot it; he shot a 10 shot group, at 200 yards, with a vintage T-10 scope, Fed Match 69, that measured 0.96 inches (0.46 MOA), center to center. I have a SPR barrel, but it may be out of your price range. Edited to add: Unless you plan to use the OPS Inc. suppressor, you don't need that specific profiling, and just about any 18" barrel may fill your needs. |
