A few months back I got the itch to jump into the ar 15 world.  I was directed to this forum and have been completely overwhelmed with the amount of great information on this site!  I know a lot of the information is just opinion, but I have enjoyed reading and learning about the unbelievable amount of rifles and options available.

For various reasons, I have pretty much decided that my first ar 15 will be a rra mid length.  I have plenty of long range rifles in variety of calibers, and just like the idea of a shorter (16", collapsible stock) more compact weapon.  After digesting the vast amounts of information on this forum and other resources, I was relieved to finally make a decision!

Well.....now a relative has presented me with the opportunity to buy a friend's Colt 6700, 20", with JP trigger in like new condition.  He purchased the gun new about 15 years ago, shot a couple of boxes of ammo through it, and it has sat in a safe ever since.  My relative knows the guy real well and trusts him on the low round count.  My relative saw the gun a few days ago and said it looks brand new.

I would appreciate any opinions you guys could throw my way on a ballpark value of the Colt 6700 (with JP trigger).  I haven't got a price on it yet, but don't want to get caught flat-footed...not knowing what a fair price would be.  I have searched around the ee and net for the 6700, but the ones I have found come with a lot of add ons and extras, so I can't find a good figure for one that isn't tricked out a little.

Also, for those that have owned this model, how did you like it?  It is definitely not really what I was looking for with the fixed stock and 20" barrel, but if the price is right it may be worth it.

Sorry for such a long first post...and thanks for your comments.

I have a MT6700  and I love it. I sent it to  J&T dist  and had a flash hider added. it cost all of 40 bucks. looks like it came from Colt that way...

anyway  there are great. it has a heavy barrel in case you didnt know and has the 1/9 twist, not a problem though, cause mine will shoot the 77gr bullets accuratley. I can shoot and hit out to 800yds with it with an ACOG and 77gr bullets. mine does have a chrome chamber and bore..

I got mine  for a little under 1k brand new in the box about 2 years ago. A friend got a used one that looks great for 850. I would pay 1k easy with that trigger in it. but I am a colt fanatic

I bought an MT6700 just before the ban expired, for $995 NIB. Have since added a Jewell 2-stage trigger, and had the barrel threaded for a standard flash hider. Good shooter with a Leupold 3-9x scope.  Its heavy--approaching 10# with sling and optics and would hate to have to lug it around, but it's my favorite AR, and got me started on this whole AR addiction.  It does not have a chrome bore or chamber.

Thanks for the input guys.  Since I had decided to purchase a  midlength with 6 position stock, I'm really not sure if a "full sized" ar would satisfy my urge.  I was wondering about the weight Skipsan......10# does sound awful heavy to be toting around.  Any thoughts on a 6 position stock on this rifle?  I am wondering if a lighter stock would make the 20" barrel  feel too front heavy?

I guess it will really boil down to the asking price.  At full price, I would not really be interested.  But if the price is right, it would give me a little wiggle room to make a few alterations more to my liking.

If anybody else has any input on the value....I would love to hear it.  Thanks again for your opinions!

The rifle is a little nose-heavy to begin with, so lightening up the stock would be a step in the wrong direction in my view. I have other shorter barreled ARs with collapsable stocks to use when hauling is an issue. I didn't make any effort to hold weight down when I added stuff--  3-9X scope with really heavy mounts, sling, etc. I'm quite happy with it as it is--sort of an informal bench rest shooter, and the weight really isn't an issue, except to and from the car.

I have a 6700 and a RRA Entry Tac. I like the colt but love the RRA. Sometimes I take both to the range but if only taking 1 the RRA  always goes. They are fine rifles for commercial made guns. So in true arfcom fashion, get both.

Honestly I would buy something that has more of what you are looking for.  I personally would not spend my money unless whatever I happen to be buying is exactly what I want.  Hell man your in TX I would get all the naughty features you can.
