| I have a couple light scraches on my eotech and saw thinking about painting it. I would like to try and match the paint on my bushy the best i can. what do you guys use to paint your AR's with that will hold up? |
|
You're worried about scratches on a combat sight? he It's an optic made for combat, grow some balls nancy. |
|
I wouldn't say it so harshly, but hey - if you don't want any scratches on your eotech, rifle, etc, just pack it in bubblewrap and forget about it. It's character. Trying to keep your gun in immacculate condition is useless, unless you don't fire it. Personally, I like the wear and tear, even though my EBR's never go further than the local ranges. Funny thing is, they still show more wear and tear than my hunting rifles that see real field use - but that's probably due more to volume of rounds fired than handling. The hunting rifles only see 20-40 rounds a year vs 1K plus per year for the EBR's. |

To M4wheeler if you cant answer the OPs question without being helpfull keep the comments to yourself or go vent in the GD forum. So you grow some balls and stop throwing insults from behind the key board.I love this site but hate when a question cant be answered without being a moron...either offer usefull info to the ops question or shut your F###ING PIE HOLE. Im tired of the armchair commando crowd talking like their range trips are combat patrols assuming how another is with their weapon cause they want to cover some scratches.I bet 70% of the people here dont even take carbine classes or run them that hard.Just humping the rifle from the trunk to the range table doesnt count. If some one cant answer a question with intelligence dont post a reply just for the sake of boosting the post count. I dont care about scratches myself but do keep my weapons and gear imaculate because thats how I was taught when I was a younger guy.Even service weapons get refinished when they get too shiny from use or parts replaced altogether. Its this kind of BS attacking memebers that makes people with real world knowledge and experience shy away from posting cause the menatlity with some doesnt go beyond age 10. |
hed Welcome to the real world, where shit actually happens. Sounds like you need a chill pill like the OP. Oh, and just to spite you, if you actually read my post without raising your blood pressure 15 points, you can see that my rifle has been painted. Which would mean I did answer the question, I just didn't spoon feed the guy an answer. Adults are adults, there is an entire forum dedicated to refinishing. If you can't find that, Darwin would have taken your ass out a few years back. Thank God for people like you that spoonfeed answers, I don't know how humankind would survive. |

Check out the refinishing forum. Lots of useful information there. Refinishing Forum |
| If you like your gear scratched up then good for you. He paid hard earned money for his stuff I am sure and wants to keep it in great shape. If you don't like it, then who cares. The OP asked a question and you insulted him. Not cool at all no matter what your opinion is. There is no need to insult someone because they want to keep their gear pristine. |

This is technical Discussions, your personal attack on the OP is way outta line..

Hey M4 grow up ass face..do you have permission from your mom to be on the computer...either be helpfull in a thread and answer the question or like I said shut the F###ING PIE HOLE under your nose. read your original response to the OP sounds like the one with the problem is you....listen newbie either help or stand aside.Spoon fed? get of the high horse people come here for help and advice in the tech forum..is that the way you talk to people when they need help if so you must be real lonely or come here to take out your frustrations cause your girl or wife rides your ass and your in "yes dear mode" so come here to cap on people...like I said does your mom know your on her computer sonny.Sorry no one under 16 allowed to post here real age or mental age..adults only....thanks |
While I wouldn't have put it that harshly.......... a couple scratches on your eotech is like a couple scars on your knees. |

Matte Black Gunkote from Brownells. Just clean and degrease, heat the part with a blowdryer and throw it in an oven. The stuff works for keeping parts coated and protected. But Im just a Nancy who doesnt mind keeping his stuff looking half decent and protected from corrosion and that. |

Wow, I'm so amazed and impressed by your hardcorenessitivity. ![]() TS, just like any other paint project: Success lies in the amount of prep you do. |

Two thirds or more of the posters in this thread, on BOTH sides of the argument, need to seriously check themselves, and be very mindful of future posts. This BS is retarded. To answer the original question, the finish on your AR is anodizing, not paint. If I remember correctly, the hood on your EOTech is anodized as well. That said, a simple flat black can from Krylon's camo line will probably give you about as close of a finish as your going to get. Remove the hood if you can, or tape off the area's you dont want painted. Wipe it down good and ensure that the surface is dry and free of oil, then give it a few light, easy coats. Skip all the clear coat stuff, etc., unless your going for a show piece or such. The bottom line is, its going to get scratched and dinged. Unless its something that impeeds function, I dont even pay the least bit of attention to scratches in the finish. My issue M16 had vitually zero anodizing left on it. It was more silver and grey than black. It ran like a top however. If the scratches do bother you, then thats completely your perogative, just know that they will happen. Another benefit to something like the Krylon I mentioned is, that when the scratches do happen, they will be easy to touch up, and not cost you an arm and a leg. |

I guess my ACOG is no good because it slipped and landed on some concrete yesterday. And my AR is no good because the paint is 100% gone around the magwell from loading, and the brass deflector has lost the paint where the spent cases bounce off. Oh, and my VFG is a POS too because it's been bounced off a few things while being used.
