New 10.5" LMT upper w/ B Co BCG on a CMMG Pistol Lower:

Failure to feed second round, multiple times after chambering an additional round after the failure.
Failure to hold the bolt open after last round.
This happened for approximately 30 rounds.

Then five rounds went through with no problems and bolt was held open on last round (X2) ten rounds total.

Then 10 rounds were fired loading two in a mag at a time with no problems.

Multiple serviceable mags were used during the firing.

It appears the set up needed breaking in.
I'll be putting some more rounds through it this weekend.
Hopefully all goes well.
Is this common?

Was the BCG well lubed?

Maybe it's the buffer.

Sounds like the rifle was short stroking.  Maybe some weak ammo combined with a break-in?  That's just my guess, nothing more.

Not enough lube is a good possibility too, I hadn't thought of that one.

My bad...

ran it very wet and used M855 LC.
It had a carbine buffer.
I have an H buffer I think I'll put in it next time.

Let us know if the H buffer solves the problem.

What I'll do is continue with the carbine buffer and see if it works itself out...

If not I'll put in the H Buffer and we'll see.

I'll keep you posted.

If your bolt is not traveling back the full distance, I would think an H buffer would only make things worse.

At the range I was thinking that also, that it would be more weight to push back (I forgot about that).
I did some reading on the buffers... some guys say use a carbine buffer and some say an H and some others as well.

Should I use the heaviest one that works?
Reliability is my biggest concern.

Took it back to the range.
Used M855 & M193.
Left the carbine buffer in.

Everything worked great, no problems.
I guess it was just too tight and needed some breaking in.

Glad to read your LM&T is now 100% OK.

I would still run at least the H buffer, because the issues you described will likely happen again, especially if you run a heavier round through that gun.

Here's some info pulled from Wikipedia:

CQBR type 2 - NSWC assembled with contracted and /or overhauled parts complete with all accessories to current standards at time of build, will work with H, H2 or H3 balanced to ammo requirements:

H ok with M193/M855.
H2 needed for MK 262/ R2LP & will run M193/M855.
H3 may be needed for an extreme case, or when the gas port is eroded but the barrel still groups.

MK18 type 1 - NSWC assembled carbine with contracted and /or overhauled parts complete with all accessories to current standards at time of build will work with H or H2 and could have shipped with either. Units will balance buffer to ammo requirements:

H ok with M193/M855. ( all ship board MK 18’s should have H buffers as this was the standard at the time of assembly).
H2 needed for MK 262/ R2LP & will run M193/M855
H3 may be needed for an extreme cases or when the gas port is eroded but the barrel still groups

These designs have 10.3" barrels (I think)

I was relieved.
I hate it when a firearm doesn't work correctly.

Thanks for the input.
I'll throw in the H's tonight.
