So I just picked up my first AR15... http://catalog.stagarms.com/cart/images/stag_arms_model3.gif Unfortunately in CT, a state with its own "Assault Weapons" Ban, my rifle has to have a fixed stock and a muzzle break instead of a flash hider. It doesn't look too bad though. Stag Arms is just across the river, so that helped my decision. If I should ever have a problem I wouldn't even need to deal with shipping. I feel better buying local. I think I did alright on price - $765. The store was/is having a big sale so I also got some ammo for a decent deal too (as far as I can tell). A case of Prvi Partisan 55gr for $320/1000, and a case of Federal XM193C for $175/$500. (plus tax) A friend convinced me I needed an Aimpoint, so I ordered a Comp C3 online. It should be here Thursday. It comes with a low ring but trying to figure out if I need a different mount. I have no front post blocking the way, but I think something a little higher might be more comfortable to shoot. Maybe the LaRue Ras II mount instead of the regular height one. Any ideas? I shot the rifle at the range yesterday morning w/a cheapo bushnell red dot I had layin around. It was a blast! I'm a pistol/shotgun shooter so this was a new experience for me. I used up about 100 rounds of the Prvi ammo through a couple C-Products mags (Another CT company). No malfunctions of any kind. I'm happy. Can't wait to get my Aimpoint. Any other accessory recommendations? Was thinking BUIS, but looking at prices I figure the $$ would be better spent on ammo. If the Aimpoint dies on me I guess my day at the range will be over. So how'd I do? Any recommendations for someone new to AR's? I've read a couple articles on cleaning & lubrication, after which I've determined that everyone does it different. I was pretty happy to see that the rifle comes apart easily at least, so im sure I will come up w/my own standard procedure. Looking forward to learning a lot from the forum here... I'll get some pics after the Aimpoint arrives next week hopefully. Anyone else out there w/a Stag 3? What kind of optics or etc have you put on it? Thanks |
LOL aimpoint dying... you've got to be shitting me... there are better chances of the tritium in a acog gettign weak long before an Aimpoint dies... Aimpoints have up to 10 year battery life... the new M4 has 8 years on one AA battery... at that rate I'd probably change the battery once a year... and never worry about it... I mean even if it skips my mind 7 times I'm still ok ... Aimpoint dying lol... come on man...

Aimpoints are great, but I've seen them crap out. Nothing is perfect. |
+1 You should get and shoot with both anyways. |

I had every intention of getting front and rear irons, but I had no idea they'd cost me $200+, especially when stag sells the same rifle with BUIS already on it for only $30 more msrp than the one I got. hink Can anyone recommend a good 2-point sling or a nice padded case that will fit my non-retractable-stock'd rifle? Thanks. |

Pelican case or Storm case⦠pelicancase.com/ www.stormcase.com/ |
Sweet! Congrats!
Cool, that's a pretty decent deal on the ammo. Where'd you pickup the C3, and how much did it run you? ETA: The Vicker's 2-point gets recommended a lot: link |
Got it used on the forum here actually. I met this guy on GlockTalk a while back and it just so happens he was selling his aimpoint. I got it for $335 after all was said and done, but he said he threw in some freebies for me so we'll see when it gets here. Cheaper than a new one in any case. Thanks for the link to the sling, I might just go ahead and order one. |
