came across one the other day. Striped upper looks just like an A1 but no forward assist at all. No visable markings whatsoever. The sight is just for left/right no up/down. What is this one called? XM16?   Any pics of one with no forward assist? Thanks

Quib- looks exactly like yours. Is there any difference that I can tell whether its one thing or the other? Only problem is the sight is missing. Any leads as where to get one? thanks again

As far as identification, you might want to ask the experts in the Retro Forum.

For A1 sight parts you might try Bushmaster.

Fulton Armory sells uppers like that with or without the sight assembly. I assume you could buy the sight assembly separately, but am not positive. They call them M16 style uppers, as in pre-A1 and pre-A2 and all that, but there were several different models that used them. I believe the A1 denotes the addition of the forward assist.
