Well it was at least a surprise to me.h.gif I saw a thread a few days ago about replacing a pinned FSB with another one. As I recall the advice was you can not, unless you use one that has set screws. I was not aware that the holes for the FSB were not pre-drilled at a spec spacing. I believed that it would be a easy exchange, well I guess not. I am interested in this because I would like to modify a Colt AR 15 A2 Sporter that I own. This was the very first AR15 I ever purchased and it was one of the early 90's 'pre-ban' rifles with large hinge pin, flash hider, and no bayonet lug. While I have kept this particular rifle all original, I would however like to put on a bayonet lug FSB. Now don't ask why, I do not even own a bayonet!he Is this a job that would be very difficult for the average gunsmith to be able to do a good job with? How practical is it to match up the new FSB with the existing cuts to the barrel for drift pins? Has anyone had much success in doing this, or should I just leave well enough alone? Thanks. |
| Try to find an original barrel and replace the entire assembly instead. Its hit or miss (most often miss) finding an FSB that matches perfectly. If anything it will be close but the taper pins won't go in all the way. I have a Blue Label like yours and was able to do the same with an FSB I got from Gun Part Corp. |

It can be done, we do it all the time. IMO, its an expensive waste of money, but we can do it. shop services |
