Is there a thread regarding the difference in buffers and tubes?
I guess some are MILSPEC and some are not.

Thanks.

A carbine buffer tube comes in two configurations: commercial or mil spec.

The buffer its self (the little metallic thing that goes on the end of the spring and inside the buffer tube) is the same size for either commercial or mil spec tubes. They do come in different weights.

What companies make the MILSPEC and what companies don't?

Specifically BM and CMMG.

Does it matter which you have when switching out stocks?

OK, the buffers are the same and the buffer tubes are different, are the springs a different diameter?....<><....:)

Go to Bravo Company's web site and look at the CTR stock both commercial and mil spec. They list the makers of each the commercial and mil spec tubes in the description.

For the above poster:

The only difference between the parts will be the tube and the stock that's on it.

Buffers are the same.

Buffer Springs are the same.

Receiver extension outside diameter is different between MILSPEC and civilian.

What effect does using the different buffers have?

Thanks

some stocks like SOPMOD must have MIL spec tubes

My VLTOR & my SOPMOD both use mil spec tubes!

But thats not to say the TUBE itself is STRONGER

After YEARS of HEARING about HOW GREAT THE 9mm buffer is
I bought a RRA 9mm buffer for 25 bucks

One of the BEST parts I added to my M4 besides my Aimpoint

Follow up shots are much faster now
my barrel dont JUMP as much

Its not a slight difference but Big I could tell after the first shot fired!

I use the 9mm buffer with the lmt enhanced carrier combo....even smoother impulse

If the above illustration is true then a Mil-spec tube is slightly smaller by about .03". I have a RRA 6 position that I purchased a few years back and the stock itself seems to have excessive play on the buffer tube. With the above info wouldn't it be better to install a mil-spec stock on a commercial tube to ensure a snug fit?
Just a though as I sit here and watch the UFC finale.

Great post with good info....... Thanks Team!!!
