Can our troops currently deployed carry their own personal weapons in the field? I know they can buy personal support items as long as it meets certain requirments, but never thought about them buying their own rifles and such. What's the rules for them? God Bless each and every one of them. I say a prayer for them all every day and hope they all come home safe soon. Elkaholic USAF 30NOV89-03APR92 Chanute AFB, Rantoul, IL |
+1 If anything, the military will not want a bunch of angry parents bitching at them because their son or daughter died because they were not using the best weapons at the time. The military can count on a certain level of performance by standardization. edit: You carry lots of equipment anyhow. Why add the weight of more ammunition and yet another gun. |
Im a little off topic here but I noticed you were stationed at rantoul, i am an hour drive from there. Its a pretty decent museum/ airport |
| I'd sure would like to have a sidearm with what I do. I'm 11B, but with what we're doing now it's all mounted. It'd be nice to have something that I could just pop out in a hurry instead of having to use a knife or pipe for up close. Not that it's ever happened, but what would happen if some hajj came running up to the door and grabbed one of us. In such tight streets it would be very possible for someone to do that. We have two M9's issued to our platoon. Instead of the M240 and 50 gunners having them in the turret, the platoon leader and sergeant have them so they don't have to carry a m4 around the patrol base. sucks huh? |
