Anyone have some close up pics of one? How does the internal mechanics work on one? I'd like to try and make one myself. I know it's not practical from a price standpoint but there is a certain pride and satisfaction you get from making not only your own gun but your own gun parts. I'm making a buffer right now and would love to make my own gas block. Please post any close up pictures and explanations on how they work. Thanks. |

I have the JP Adjustable Gas Block. Got it from Randall at AR15Barrels. There is nothing mysterious about it's operation. There is a simple allen screw threaded into the side, which when tightened impeeds the flow of gas from the barrel to the tube. I'm frankly not that impressed with it. I found that I need to leave it all the way open to be reliable with all sorts of ammo. Sure if I only shot XM193, I could close it a few turns (5 1/2 turns is full open) and slightly reduce the recoil impulse, but then it wouldn't function well if I had a to shoot cheap stuff. Add to that the screw get very hard to turn because of carbon deposits. In fact, just a few hundred rounds froze the screw in place and I worried that I would strip it out, or sheer my allen wrench, as I torqued hard to break it loose. So knowing what I do now, I'll not waste the funds on one again. I just stick with a nice low profile unit and call it good. |
