I just got home with my very first AR-15 and I pick it up and it feels like something is loose. Are all ARs like this? It feels like my forehand grip and butt are loose. Any suggestions on whats wrong or if its how it is supposed to feel would be helpful. Also what is this button behind where the shells eject at? |

Don't fret. For the longest time before I got my first ar I had no idea what it did either. My bolt actions and other rifles dont have (or need) a forward assist. I have never needed to use it on my ar, but the most I ever put through it in 1 sitting is 300 rnds or so. I assume once the lug area has enough crap in it then the bolt won't lock causing the gun to not fire. At that point you would hit the button to help push the bolt. I am no soldier so don't ask me the proper drill for when the zombies just knocked down your door and the gun jams. As far as the looseness , when you go to the range see if you can find someone knowledgeable in ar's and make sure it all looks ok. There will be some looseness in the buttstock. The front handguards are held down by the big ring so there might be some wiggle. It has a spring on it so you can pull it down and remove the handguards fyi. All this assuming you have a normal ar and not a tricked out one. Congrats on your first ar. |
