Hey guys,

Are there significant differences between pre ban Colt lowers? Or...post ban, for that matter.

Match, Sport, or whatever they are.....I forget.

I'm looking to get the best preban lower I can. If not, I might be able to work something out with a new lower...but please try to give info on preban lowers for now.

   * Forward take down pins?
   * Any lower parts that are stronger, bigger?
   * Sear block?

Forget about the stocks. That's covered.

If you can help me out ASAP, I can try to make the right phone calls on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday. There are a few deals I'd like to make but can't till I figure this out.

It's a whole pre ban post ban thing I'm trying to work out with FFLs on my end. (NY) 6920 upper...... All too messed up to trouble you guys with.

The post ban(during the ban) were machine differently. The sporters had a block in them... If I remember right.
Hope it helps

Recent Colt production has had standard takedown pins and a interior block that would interfere with an autosear but have no effect on using the more desirable full circle bolt carrier.
Recent production also has the large diameter fire control  group pins; not a major problem.
Soooo, if you are after a Colt lower, and live in a free state where that isn't a problem, recent production is the way to go.
However, I see you are in NY, which is another question altogether.
Does NY restrict what components (FH, bayo lug, adjustable stock) you can use with a post ban lower?  If so, I would look for a preban lower that takes standard parts.

Ok....this is good. Now I'm getting somewhere...

Yeah, post ban lowers mean post ban rules. I don't need or want bayo lug, FH or telestock, but I really want a lower that doesn't say LE on it. Lots of AR15.com guys say otherwise, but NY FFLs tell me they will not take delivery of a lower that says LE.

I'm sick of trying to sort it out...so they win. Preban it is.

Which preban Colt lowers use standard parts?

This info would set me on the right path. I'm looking for the best "match" for a 6920 upper that I'm trying to get.

No colt lower uses standard parts.

I have a Colt Match Target (CST sn# prefix) and it used standard AR parts and does not have a block.  It came with a cross screw but was drilled for the spring and detent for the front take down pin, so I put them in and it works as designed.
Replaced the post ban barrel with a good one.

Nice!  How do you like the CavArms stock?  I just ordered one for an future build.

I ordered the shell only and put the Colt A2 plate on it when it arrived.  I like it much better than the long A2 stock.  I am 6' but it fits me better.  Stock holds more stuff than the original also.

Your lower uses large trigger/hammer pins.

Cool, that's my plan as well.  Did the standard sling swivel and screw fit OK?

No it does not.  My Colt LE 6920 has big pins, this Match Target has standard pins. I posted the above because it has standard pins and I assumed all MT with a CST sn did.  Need a pix of the two lowers side by side for proof?

What FCG pins do the current LEO 6920's use?

Current LEO 6520s use large hammer/trigger pins.

To the OP- Only Colt Defense lowers bear the 'restricted' admonition.  Lowers from Match Targets have no  such warning.  In any case, unless you are planning to build a 100% Colt, you are probably worrying too much about the provenance of the lower.
It would seem to me that an AR built on a preban lower will cost more now but will be worth more down the road.
