I just purchased my first AR15, it is a Sabre Defence SPR with flip up sights.

I guess I need a front sight tool, anyone have any specific suggestions on where to buy or what exactly I need.  Like I said, my first AR so this is new to me.

Can you use something else to adjust in the mean time?  The iron sights on this thing are waaay off and I would like to get them dialed in before I put a scope on it.

Thanks,

Tip of a bullet, small allen wrench, eye glasses screw driver.  Anything that can push the detent down.  Not the perfect tool but works perfect in a pinch.

I don't know what your front sight post looks like but if it adjusts in the standard way you just something to push the detent with with. I just got my first one yesterday and I used a pen and a tiny pair of pliers to gently turn the post.

All those methods work. Olympic Arms also sells a little tool with a key ring on it that works like a champ. I think it was $10 or something. Nice little unit but you don't really need one. When people ask you what that thing on your keychain is, you can sound real cool when you tell them though. :)

Tip of the bullet works, a small nail, pen, or "some thing" works fine too. BZO and leave the front sight alone.

You don't need the sight tool unless you are making a lot of adjustments all of the time. I work at a military range and we BZO hundreds of shooters a month. I use the 4 prong sight tool that has a screwdriver handle, it holds up well, I wore out the smaller key chain type adjuster in about 3 months.

I picked up a A1/A2 front sight tool from JSE Surplus for somewhere in the area of $6.00.  It works great at a great price.

So if you use any small object to push the detent down, can the post be turned easily?  Or would you need pliers to move it?

Yeah, the tool itself pushes the detent down and then rotates the post whatever way you want to adjust.

I was placing an order at BravoCompany and added a front sight tool to the list. It didn't add to the shipping cost so what the heck. The tool ($11) has two ends, one for A1 and the other for A2. I've never had a problem adjusting the iron without one but the way AR's seem to follow my home I've found that it makes things a little easier/quicker now.

This is your first AR. Might as well get one now so you'll have it for your second, third, fourth... well you get the idea.

I have not had the need to adjust mine, but everyone said to use a bullet tip to push the detent, and use shell case with the mouth smashed mostly closed to turn it.

It turns easily, but it's tiny so if you might need something like a pair of tweezers or pliers to get in there and actually turn it.

M193 round is all I ever needed to adjust the front sights on my rifles, (I mean exactly how many times is this process necessary) so what the heck do I need for a tool that I'll never use but once.....

The tip of a bullet will work, but I use this tool:

It's $11 at Bravo Company USA. Link to product page

I was placing an order at Bravo some time ago and added this tool to the list. No extra shipping so what the heck. It fits nicely in one of the little compartments in my AR cleaning kit (one tray fishing box).

I too thought that if you use it only once what's the need!? Well... the need is I keep adding AR's to the safe(s). Should have bought one long ago.

Agreed, the AR-15 front sight was designed around being adjusted with a bullet.  It just makes sense.
