I'm not new to AR's but am new to railed forends. How do I get the covers to go on my new S&W AR ? The rail is a Troy and the covers are made by Ergo grip.

TIA, Nick

Can't say I'm too familiar with those specific covers, but as far as I know covers only fit in one of two ways.

There are the ladder style that look well, like a ladder and lay down on the rail and fit into the spaces in between.  If you have that t ype, it be pretty self evident.

The other type are usually ribbed and simply slide on either from the front or the back.  If it is a carbine, then one with 11-ribs will pretty much fill the rail, so 4 of them and all your rails are covered.  Obviously if you want to put something on your rails, you have to use shorter covers to allow you to fix whatever you want onto the rail.  Some of the ribbed covers (those made by Knights Armament) have a metal latch that snap into the rail and keep the covers secure.

If you have various lengths of covers, then you can use what you need to cover your rails and allow for whatever accessories you have.  If you don't, you may have to do a little custom trimming of the covers to allow you to do this.

Hope that answers your question.

Start at one end, spread them apart and work them on from one end to the other.  Kinda hard to explain but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out how to put them on.

Nick, There is no such thing as a dumb question, just dumb answers. the person above answered it pretty well. Just remember your question has as much merit as someone asking about barrel twists and trigger assembly's.

Just to add onto the spreading apart procedure; grasp the cover in both hands with your pointer fingers underneath both sides of the cover, press the middle of the cover with your thumbs to spread it apart and place it on the rails. follow the directions above.

I had a really hard time with this too so don't feel bad.
