I have one of those Bushmaster uppers with the AK74 noisemaker on the front, and I need to remove it. It's not welded, and I don't live in an area where it matters. I want to remove the stock FSB, and replace it with an LMT FSB as I have an extra, and I want a F height FSB. Additionally, I intend to go back with a Smith Vortex, I guess with a crush washer. Do I just get a piece of bar stock, or a heavy file and start cranking on the damn thing. What should I use to install the Vortex? Should I lock-tite if a crush washer is used?

Thanks in advance.

NO!  The brake is most likely blind pinned.  Grind around the bottom of the brake until you find the pin.  Knock it out, and see if the brake will then come off.  Click on the link below and scroll about 3/4 down the page and you'll see an example of someone taking off a pinned Y-Comp.

Lastly, I dontknow anyonewho uses a washer under a Vortex, They typically work perfect without one.

The poster above knows what he's talking about, Its blind pinned on and if you try to forceit off, you may destroy the barrel.
