I have an offer on some A1 parts. My question is about a few of those. Is an A1 FSB compatible with an A2 rear sight? What is the difference in an A1 and A2 barrel? Also what is the difference in the A1 and A2 stocks? Can round handguards fit with a triangular cap? I am getting some good condition parts for a good price. Most of it is for a retro but I am looking for a more modern AR. However if A1 and A2 are compatible I can start with it and transform it later. I am just not real familiar with the A1.

Yes, an A1 FSB will be fine with a A2 rear as long as the FSB is not marked with a F
which is for flattop uppers.

The A2 barrel is heavier from just behind the FSB to the muzzle.

An A2 stock is about an inch longer than an A1.  5/8" IIRC

Round handguards will work with a triangular cap just fine.

Hope this helps,

If you really can't live with the retro parts you might want to list them for sale in the EE. Then you cam buy the new parts you are wanting. Of course, you could stop by the Retro Forum and end up with Retro BRD and decide you want to keep it just the way it is.

Well you may be right on that. I do love the "old school" look. As a matter of fact the first gun on this platform was the M16A1. I just like the the option of and optic with the flattop.
