So I'd like a show of opinions;
I'm running an RRA 16" stainless HBAR, mid gas
I've got milspec ammo (that serbian prvi partizan stuff)
My best groupings so far are 2.5" @ 100 yards with iron sights.  (Additional note: 2.5" groupings are my average nominal grouping.  If you count the flyers, its about a 5"-6" spread.  But I think I can say 2.5" because theres a nice 70-80% shot cluster in that area)

Aside from using better quality ammo and optics, can I really shrink those groups?  Am I at the upper limit with this current set up, or is there someone out there that can, for sure, do better with a similar set up?  In which case, please tell me so!

I'd really like to know the full accuracy potential for this gun, but its proving rather difficult, as optics are out of my budget right now.

Also, what are some good 100 yard iron sight targets, and some good 50 yard zero targets?

If it were me:
Free float the handguard (DCM float tube style)
Pick-up a match trigger (your choice single or 2 stage)
Go to Compass Lake Engineering or White Oak for a good set of sights
Buy better ammo (of course)
Practice practice practice
Then later if you wanted to spend the money, upgrade the barrel and BCG.

The list can go on and on and opinions will vary widely between shooters. Most comes down to budget and preference. This was just my .02 cents.

But in all reality 2.5" using standard equipment and the ammo you referenced isn't bad.

I already have the barrel floated, and although I don't have a match trigger, I did get a trigger job.  It is a really nice, crisp and clean 4 pounder..

I was reading This article in the box o truth, and it seems his DPMS 16" bull barrel was getting in the neighborhood of 2.5" with optics and M193 ammo (although not from prvi).

And the stuff I'm shooting is M193, So I guess that pretty much settles it then...I need better ammo.

You need better ammo, and then glass to take full advantage of it.

You can try but that is respectable for what you have and the sights on that rifle.

While this may be above and beyond, consider the Uni-Max Green Lasermax, railed, and at 100 yards it may be pushing it to the limits, but it could get you to 1.5 MOA, at least that is what I am shooting for, ordered mine today....but I think the 50 yard target will be my best bet during  bright daylight shooting 10.5 inch barrel with iron sights.

Agreed.  At 2moa ammo would improve your grops the most, with magnified optics comming in 2nd.

What about your eyesight?  I have slight astigmatism in my right eye that gives me a little bit of a blur.  I'm not much for bench shooting so I'm not too upset with my 2" group at 50 yds using Black Hills 55gr remanufactured.

i know you dont want to here this but, next ammo buy get boxes of several types.  some just work better in one gun over another, and better glass.

If you need a better group you need better ammo.
I have shot several types with my Rock 16" varmint and it loved the Hornady Tap 75 grainers. Less than a 3/4" group at 100 yards.
I found that you should shoot all types and bullet weights to see what yours is gonna like the best. It can be costly, but if you like perfection.......

Actually my eyesight is quite good (which is beyond me, because my family generally has bad eyesight).  I'm seeing close to 20/20 for both eyes.  I can see a 3" black circle at 100 yards.  It looks like a speck though, haha...but i can see it.

My $0.02, FWIW

1.  More practice/better technique?

2.  Diffferent ammo - Black Hills perhaps?

3.  Trigger work

4.  Optics

5.  Free float

Yeah that's what I was throwing back and forth in my head from the start.  I just figured I want to maximize with what I have now before moving on.

So I am going to compile a shopping list of different ammo types.  Any suggestions to what I should try out first?

in my opinion, getting 2.5" groups at 100yds using iron sights is pretty impressive.
If you were to mount some nice glass you should be able to get sub MOA groups
all day long.
