OK, right now I have an AR I traded for at a gun show a while back. The lower is obviously a DPMS, the dealer I got it from said it was a complete DPMS, however the barrel does not have the DPMS markings, nor is there any noticeable marking on the upper aside from T markings which mean nothing and the forge mark which also means nothing. Now here's the deal, I'm debating on buying some things like an EOTech that I can switch over to another AR in the future, or saving up and buying a LMT. My problem is this, I have about 2 semesters left then I'm going to look for a job at departments, I know that some only allow certain companies, mainly Colt or Rock River, to be carried, I also know that many people have written letters to get LMT approved. What do you guys think? I'm a college student so it's not like I'd readily have the money to do either, both would require some saving. To the LEO's out there or anyone else with experience, should I go with the LMT and have a very nice AR to have and use and hope it'd get approved, or should I just go with simple things like an EOTech that I can switch over? Thanks. EDIT: For those of you with experience, please be critical. I realize that some departments 'choose' who will go through the rifle courses etc, I also know the 'just buy ammo and shoot' line, I'm looking for something to invest in for my future career. Thanks again. |

Without knowing where or in what capacity you'll end up, it's a Vegas long shot that ANYTHING you buy now, short of underwear and socks, will be approved for use in your LEO career. That said, your best investment now would be training and trigger time. That way, you're more likely, in some cases, to be a 'better' candidate for rifle training. If ya just gotta buy something, get stuff YOU are going to be happy with shooting for recreation. I'd classify that as a quality, reliable rifle (as per the Pat Rodgers thread above), training, and lots of trigger time.
