Friend of mine just called with aColt AR for sale. It was purchased by him new in the early to mid 80's and he says its an SP-1????. He doesn't know AR's very well so all I know prior to looking is the SP-1 thing and it has a fixed carry handle and 20" barrel. Anyone know anything about the SP-1?? or where I might go to get a value before I waste my time going to look at the weapon. I know that the weapon is in near if not in 100% condition and has been fired less the 300 rds. Any help appreciated. Thanks Kattman from Michigan |

Check in the Retro forum. The SP 1 is marked SP 1 on the lower, and it's a large hole, slabside lower. The pivot pin will be a double headed screw, rather than a captive pin, and the diameter will be slightly larger than the rear pin. Slickside upper with A1 sights, 20" 1/12 barrel, and most likely an A1 birdcage flash suppressor. Triangle handguards and A1 length stock. They are good weapons, though the 1/12 rifling limits them somewhat with ammo, and the large hole receivers make it more complicated to switch out configurations. HTH, ~Augee |
