I am looking to do a Build with either a Noveske 16.1 stainless barrel or a N4 upper.  I can't decide what barrel to go with.  The gun will be used for plinking, targeting rodents and maybe 3gun.

The N4 barrel would most likely last longer...but I doubt I would shoot out the SS.

you wont be able to tell the difference.

Buy what you can afford, and buy what is available now.

That was my guess...hence the problem deciding.  14.5" with a carbine gas or 16" with mid length gas, a bit of a advantage to the ML.  A little more velocity and less flash with the 16".  Lighter and better handling with the 14.5".  Hammer forged and chrome lined for the 14.5"  The price will be about the same with similar setups.......Flip a coin I guess

yeah, flip a coin.

I dont like paying $200 tax stamp for a 14.5, and i dont like perm. attaching flash hiders.

Id lean towards 16.1, but thats me.

I know you didn't mention this as an option, but a buddy of mine and I took a rifle class togetherlast month. He had the Noveske 13.7" one with a Vortex, and that thing ran like a top. I believe it's the shortest you can get using a midlength gas system.  Another buddy of mine also just got a Noveske N4. I am just amazed at how nice these things are, and I thought i had a nice rig (LMT 10.5").

You're right, you might as well flip a coin.  Personally, i'd consider the 13.7" also, unless you are not interested in the SBR thing.

N4 in a VLTOR VIS, with an FSC556 pinned on instead of a Vortex.  The N4 is plenty accurate for any of your uses, and will be noticeably lighter than the 16" stainless barrel.  The FSC556 is an excellent comp, with enough flash suppressing ability to be used on a defensive/duty rifle.

With proper care you probably won't wear out either barrel, but the N4 is handier than the 16" stainless.  You really can't go wrong with either one, though.

I would pick the N4 b/c of the weight savings.
